FAMILIARITIES
A new collection of colourful and shapeless puppets at Fabrica Features Bologna

When: 08 May, 2006
Where: Fabrica Features, via Rizzoli 8 - Bologna
What: Exhibition

Spring has arrived at Fabrica Features Bologna, the Bologna concept store of Fabrica: on May 19th at 6:00 p.m. the young Spanish designer Miren Marañon Tejedor will present “Familiarities”, a new collection of colorful and multiform puppets all made using recycled fabrics.

As Miren entered that huge textile storage space, she immediately felt she had to do something to rescue that big amount of fabrics from oblivion, allowing them to become new ideas, concepts and characters and to breathe a new life. Through a process of combination and experimentation, she created a family of different dolls, each of them with a special and unique personality and made of different kinds of fabrics: rugged, printed, colorful, bright, ugly, transparent, thick or delicate. Besides reminding us of our childhood, when our aesthetic sense and imagination were completely free of rules and preconceived notions, these little dolls also speak of affection and underline the importance and the value of artisanship. A new family of fancy creatures stimulating our imagination and making us appreciate the beauty and fascination of unusual things.

Fabrica Features is a network of cultural and commercial spaces open in Lisbon, Istanbul, Hong Kong, Bologna and Montecatini, where one-person shows, exhibits of local artists, concerts, video projections, live performances, workshops and lectures become key opportunities for gathering together.
