Fabrica at 2006 Biennale Internationale Design Saint Etienne

When: 22 November, 2006
Where: Saint Etienne - France
What: Exhibition

With Free Style Exhibition Fabrica presents, within a provocative design installation, a series of innovative objects transcending the traditional demarcation lines between market and design, contemplation of aesthetics and use, product and communication.

Objects and shapes are all around us. Design is meant to add a meaning to them, a small sign that can make the difference. Fabrica Design is all about that small sign, that applied to products, objects, shows or installations make a big difference. It’s a sign that communicate fun, comfort, vitality and beauty. Each designer brings to the ongoing research his own personal style and experience. As a result, projects developed by Fabrica young artists are inspired by this cultural and social crossover.

JE T’AIME, MOI NON PLUS
An installation commenting life as a couple and reflecting on how frequently lack of communication between people make us behave in stupid and incomprehensible ways.

Lunch or dinner are the moments in which a couple usually meet to talk, confront, have fun, but most of the times this unfortunately doesn’t happen. The wooden table proposed by Fabrica in the installation Je t’aime, moi non plus symbolically represents this incommunicability: the guillotine in the middle both creates a physical barrier between the couple, but at the same time let them see their image reflected on the blade-mirror. The guillotine therefore is not seen as a violent and gloomy object anymore, but becomes a mean of self-criticism.

ALBERTO
The drying rack “Alberto” is part of a collection of products for the garden created by Fabrica for Casamania by Frezza. All the furnishings have been designed with an eye for detail to make outdoor living more comfortable and practical. The distinguishing characteristic of the collection lies in the combination of concept and function—to produce objects that both meet a practical need and make the external environments we live in more aesthetically pleasing.

FABRICA FEATURES
Fabrica Features collection of objects aims at turning upside down the traditional logic of marketing and communication. It is no longer ideas, advertising or corporate communication that sell a product: the products serve the idea, so that they themselves become the message. Thus a simple eraser is transformed into a denunciation of censorship; a sketchbook is reminiscent of an architectural form; a ruler celebrates the creativity that is hidden in an error and a box encourages us to make better use of natural resources.

The Fabrica Features collection (sketchbooks, pencils, erasers, rulers, bags, boxes, slippers, bookmarks and also vases, lamps and other design objects) is aimed at various types of stores, from purely commercial outlets to cultural ones, from specialised stores to shops of art museum.
