The ninth floor
An exhibition and a book dedicated to the work of Jessica Dimmock
When: 19 September, 2007 Where: Forma - Milan What: Exhibition
On September 18th 2007 FORMA Centro Internazionale di Fotografia has opened Jessica Dimmock’s exhibition The Ninth Floor.
The Ninth Floor is just like any other floor in a Manhattan building, but in this case it is the apartment where a group of addicts buy and sell drugs, sleep, argue, make love and fight. For almost three years Jessica Dimmock followed the stories of the ninth floor and of its residents. Many have photographed the tragedy of the world of drugs, but the strength of these images gives a new and extraordinary account, both intimate and raw.
Jessica Dimmock, 28, lives in New York. She is a graduated of The International Center of Photography's Program in Documentary Photography and Photojournalism. Her work was published in Aperture, The New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, Time, Fortune, New York Magazine and Fade.
The Ninth Floor has been given the F Award for Concerned Photography, created by Forma Centro Internazionale di Fotografia and Fabrica the Benetton research centre on communication.
The book The ninth floor is published by Contrasto.
FORMA is a project created by Fotospazio, a company of Fondazione Corriere della Sera and Contrasto, in the location of an historical tramway warehouse in the Ticinese neighbourhood in Milan, property of ATM.
FORMA is also supported by the significant sponsorship of Canon Italia and American Express and also by Coop Lombardia and Toshiba.
