Matthias Neutzner

Matthias Neutzner was born in 1960 in the town of Görlitz in Germany’s far east. He grew up in Dresden where he attended Kreuzschule, one of the city’s most famous high schools and from there went on to study aeronautics and computer science. As a young engineer he worked mainly on software development. Later he began a series of interdisciplinary projects focusing on communication at the interface of technology and society. He currently works as a Management Consultant for public administration.
Matthias Neutzner is also interested in historical-cultural topics since 1980. As a historian he did research on regional history under Hitler’s national socialism and World War II as well as on the dynamics and the effort of commemorating these events. He has authored several monographic works and essays on the topic.
In 1987 Matthias Neutzner founded the association “February 13, 1945“ – an intergenerational project in which both the survivors of the February 1945 Dresden bombings and younger people work for peace and human rights.
In his exploration of social topics, Matthias Neutzner uses varied means of artistic expression such as theatre and performance, installations and events in public spaces as well as multimedia productions.
Matthias Neutzner lives in Dresden.
