10x10
West, Middle East, Far East
An interactive exploration of the words and pictures that define our time. The result is an often moving, sometimes shocking, occasionally frivolous, but always a fitting snapshot of our world. Every hour, 10x10 collects the 100 words and pictures that matter most on a global scale, and presents them as a single image taken to encapsulate that moment in time. Over the course of days, months, and years, 10x10 leaves a trail of these hourly statements which, when stitched together, form a continuous patchwork of human life. 10x10 made its low-profile debut in November 2004, with a link on the homepage of www.fabrica.it and via e-mail. In just a few hours 10x10 was visited by thousands of people from all over the world. Two days later 10x10 was the tenth most popular link on the Web.

The installation expands the original concept and is created with three different screens referring to three of the world’s geopolitical areas: the West, the Middle East and the Far East. The new, expanded piece shows the extent to which the world has become globalized while at the same time, it still remains very local. It also shows how sometimes, when big stories break, our range of sources can be very limited.
