Il Vuoto è Brutto (emptiness is ugliness) was the title of a workshop conducted by Swiss graphic design duo Norm. The workshop explored the relationship between order and disorder, chaos and emptiness.
The objective was to choose a three-dimensional space, remove its contents, make an inventory of the contents, order the contents and finally return the contents to the space in order.
Yianni Hill and Marian Grabmayer chose to work with a square area of stones found within the Fabrica grounds that people walk on everyday. The stones were taken from the space, ordered by size and colour, and then replaced into the space.
